Photographs taken by Gay Klok with a digital camera
during late February
and March in the Town Garden 1998
The
leaves of the hamamelis just beginning to
show
Autumn shadings under the ancient Oak Tree quercus
robur in the Sandy Bay garden.
Hydrangeas
have turned that strangely beautiful sea green
and blue colour, a good time to cut, hang upside down in a dark
place and place in arrangements for the house when cut
flowers are scarce
The
abutilon is at its best during the late summer
and
early Autumn months. They are very easy to grow
in a sheltered spot
Colours
may vary from pinks to orange and scarlet,
yellow to white
The
Autumn cyclamen neapolitanum just arriving
amongst self seeded aquilegia in a very old
stone
pot, note the leaves - you would be hard pressed
to find exactly the same markings on two plants
Crinum
powellii - with its wonderful, slightly
over powering perfume will remain forever
in a forgotten, sheltered corner. They resent
being moved and that is the kind of plant I like!
Amaryllis
belladonna, common name "Naked Lady"
also prefers not to be moved too often
A
pure white form of the "Naked Lady". The common
name comes about because the flowers appear a long
time before the leaves .
A
slightly darker shade of Amaryllis belladonna
Plant in a warm border and allow to become as
dry as possible in the summer with bulb necks
above the soil
Another
slightly tender old fashioned plant. We have
no trouble growing it outdoors except with its exuberance.
Prune severely at the beginning of Spring. The name is
Iochroma tuberlosa ["WV Seymour"???] and
it is a
native of Ecuador
Colchium
autumnal, I always look forward to
their arrival. Another plant that appears without its
clothing of leaves. A lovely white form is just
appearing, I will show you that in the next
article
The
ginger plants are transporting their perfume
through the garden. A few stems in a vase will
send their scent through every room in
the house
